Maranatha church was founded in the early 1900's as the sugarcane industry was beginning and many Haitians were being
brought over from Haiti to work in the fields. The Haitian Baptist Convention felt that there was a great need to minister
on this side of the island and began sending pastors to plant chuches and begin a ministry. Many years and many churches
later, Maranatha church and it's sister ministry of the Good Samaritan Hospital, provide medical, educational, construction,
social and evangelical services to over 100 communities a year. Maranatha currently receives over 30 work teams a year
from the United States and Canada who provide many things that would otherwise be unavailable to these communities of sugar
cane cutters, called, bateyes (pronounced, bah-TAY-es).
